Conservatives are spending £millions in local taxpayers' money to stitch up a proposal for a mega North Yorkshire council stretching from the suburbs of Darlington to the outskirts of Doncaster, headed up by an Executive Mayor.
This would be a disaster for residents in Harrogate district, with power being taken further from local residents. Why should councillors in places as far as Scarborough be making decisions about how the Stray is managed?
Harrogate district should run its own services, bringing decision-making closer to residents. Whatever decision is made, it must respect clear community links.
SIGN THE PETITION: I the undersigned call the County Council to abandon their proposals for a unitary North Yorkshire authority and for the Government to bring decision-making closer to residents, not in the hands of an Executive Mayor covering a huge area.
