Liberal Democrats have long demanded fundamental reforms and Proportional Representation (PR) has been a core proposal of our manifesto at every election the party has ever fought.
At the 2019 General Election, the Conservatives, despite only getting 44% of votes, entered the House of Commons with 56% of seats.
14.5 million people have an MP they didn't vote for, while 71% of votes were “wasted”.
It is no wonder that people feel they have little or no influence on decision-making today.
This needs to change.
Make Votes Matter is a single-issue campaign for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons and encourages all parties, candidates and MPs to support PR.
The group believe that the House of Commons should be elected by PR so that seats in Parliament match how the people vote - and that every vote should count, regardless of where you live or who you vote for.
Harrogate & Knaresborough Lib Dems are delighted to welcome Laura Vinton from Make Votes Matter to join us for a discussion on the impact of PR on UK Politics.
Join us via Zoom on Thursday 10th December at 6pm and be part of the campaign for real democracy!
